The Aspen Science Center (ASC) is a science education nonprofit based in Carbondale with a mission of advancing public understanding of science through lifelong discovery, exploration, and education. ASC offers a wide variety of year-round, hands-on, engaging programs for people of all ages from Aspen to Parachute The ASC seeks a motivated and self-directed part-time Intern Coordinator to develop and manage its Community STEM Leaders Internship (CSLI) Program. The CSLI Program is a unique internship designed to empower leadership-oriented youth from Aspen to Parachute who are passionate about STEM to be leaders of STEM education and engagement in their communities. The ASC Intern Coordinator (IC) will lead this program by recruiting, hiring, training, managing, and mentoring 16 high-school age youth from Aspen to Parachute throughout the 2025-2026 school year.. The Intern Coordinator will work closely with the ASC Education Manager to build and manage the program, but will also have a lot of autonomy for creativity in the execution of the program. This position is best suited for someone who is competent at managing other people and multiple tasks, and who can work in a self-directed and collaborative environment. Additional opportunities may exist for the Intern Coordinator to help with other ASC operations, such as delivering/teaching ASC programs. The CSLI Program and Intern Coordinator Positions are generously funded by a 12-month Youth Impact Grant awarded by the Jonathan D + Mark C. Lewis Foundation in partnership with the Aspen Community Foundation, with opportunities to apply for additional grant funding cycles. The Intern Coordinator position is a change-making opportunity for a creative and youth-oriented individual to create and build a program that will inspire and empower local teens to pursue their goals and dreams!

Habilidades requeridas

  • Experience working with teenage youth in a teaching or mentoring capacity.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously, and approach challenges and opportunities with flexibility, enthusiasm, focus, and a can-do attitude.
  • Ability to create and maintain a structured work environment with disciplined on-task time management, planning, record keeping, correspondence, and follow-up.
  • Ability to work and deliver programs in a variety of settings and locations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to communicate confidently with a range of constituents including Board, staff, donors, partners, clients, program participants of all ages, vendors, other non-profit, government and business leaders.
  • Innovative and resourceful program manager. Creative problem solver.
  • Ability to pack, transport, set-up/take-down a range of program equipment/materials.
  • Reliable transportation for program development, administration, and delivery.
  • Experience in instructional curriculum development and delivery, program materials inventory and management, staff supervision, collaborative teamwork, evaluation.

Cualificaciones

  • BS in Science, Science Education, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • High level of interest and understanding of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education content and educational practices.
  • Experience working in a local high school in the Aspen, Roaring Fork, Re-2, or Garfield 16 School Districts.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Current residency in the Aspen to Parachute region, or ability to secure housing if not a current resident.

Condiciones de empleo

  • Reports to ASC Education Manager.
  • Start-Date in new Position: as early as June 23, 2025.
  • Hourly. Approx 20-hours/week. $28-$30/hour based on experience.
  • Relatively flexible work schedule, hybrid work available depending on nature of task requirements, some evening and weekend commitments necessary.
  • Work-related personal vehicle mileage reimbursement: $0.60/mile.
  • Use of personal computer. Frequent file backups to Google Drive required.
